The regional finals always bring a different level of intensity, and Wednesday night was no exception. The Goodrich Martians took the floor against Warren Regina in the MHSAA Division 2 Regional Championship with one goal in mind: earn a spot in the state quarterfinals.
When the final buzzer sounded, Goodrich had done exactly that.
Behind standout performances from Tanner and Baylor, the Martians delivered a dominant effort on both ends of the floor, defeating Warren Regina 52–35 and continuing their impressive postseason run.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
From the opening tip, Goodrich established the tone with aggressive defense and confident offensive execution. The Martians forced early turnovers and pushed the pace, creating scoring opportunities while feeding off the energy of a packed and lively crowd.
Midway through the first quarter, Tanner provided the first spark of the night. Catching a pass on the wing, she rose up and knocked down a three-pointer that ignited the Goodrich bench and gave the Martians an early boost. The shot helped Goodrich settle into rhythm and begin building momentum.
Baylor Takes Over
As the game moved into the second quarter, Baylor began to take control offensively.
Showing incredible efficiency from beyond the arc, Baylor knocked down multiple three-pointers and consistently found open space against the Regina defense. Each shot seemed smoother than the last, and every make pushed the momentum further toward Goodrich.
By halftime, the Martians were firmly in control thanks to their defensive pressure and Baylor’s growing scoring total.
Responding to Regina’s Push
The third quarter brought a tougher battle as Warren Regina attempted to rally. Regina tightened their defense and worked to slow the pace of the game in hopes of closing the gap.
But every time Regina showed signs of momentum, Goodrich responded.
Tanner delivered another key three-pointer during the quarter, once again stopping Regina’s run and keeping the Martians comfortably ahead. Her ability to deliver big shots at crucial moments proved to be a major difference in the game.
Meanwhile, Baylor continued her remarkable shooting performance. Whether spotting up from deep or capitalizing on open looks created by teammates, she remained red-hot from beyond the arc.
By the end of the night, Baylor had scored 22 points while shooting an incredible 90% from the freethrow line—one of the most efficient performances of the postseason.
Closing Out the Championship
Heading into the fourth quarter, Goodrich stayed locked in on finishing the job.
Their defense tightened once again, limiting Regina’s scoring opportunities while controlling the tempo offensively. Tanner added to the scoring late, finishing the night with 15 points and three three-pointers, delivering key baskets whenever the Martians needed them most.
As the final seconds ticked away, the Goodrich bench began to celebrate.
The Martians had done it—capturing the regional championship with a 52–35 victory and punching their ticket to the state quarterfinals.
Looking Ahead
The night showcased a complete team effort, but the standout performances from Tanner and Baylor powered Goodrich to another memorable playoff victory.
With confidence, momentum, and a regional title in hand, the Martians now turn their attention to the next challenge as they continue their pursuit of a state championship.
