In a thrilling semifinal matchup at the Breslin Center, the East Lansing Trojans defeated the Brother Rice Warriors 55–52 to advance to the championship game of the MHSAA Division 1 Boys Basketball Tournament. 🏀🔥

The game lived up to the expectations, featuring two talented programs battling back and forth until the final seconds.

Strong Start from East Lansing

East Lansing came out aggressive early, pushing the tempo and attacking the basket. Their offense was led by standout guard KJ Torbert Jr., who once again showed why he is one of the most dynamic scorers in Michigan high school basketball.

Torbert created offense in multiple ways—driving to the rim, hitting mid-range jumpers, and keeping the defense on its heels.

Brother Rice Fights Back

Despite East Lansing’s strong start, Brother Rice refused to go away. The Warriors relied on disciplined defense and balanced scoring to keep the game within reach.

Brother Rice slowed the pace in the second half, forcing tougher possessions and turning the game into a physical battle. Key defensive stops and timely shots helped them close the gap and make it a one-possession game late in the fourth quarter.

Late-Game Execution

With the game on the line, East Lansing stayed composed. The Trojans executed on both ends of the floor, making crucial free throws and defensive stops in the final moments.

Brother Rice had a chance to tie in the closing seconds, but East Lansing’s defense held firm, sealing the 55–52 victory.

Trojans Head to the Championship

With the win, the East Lansing Trojans advance to the state championship where they will face the Rockford Rams.

The matchup will feature two contrasting styles:

  • East Lansing: fast-paced offense and explosive scoring

  • Rockford: physical defense and controlled tempo

Both teams are now just one win away from capturing the Division 1 state championship. 🏆

For Brother Rice, the loss ends a strong playoff run, but the Warriors proved they could compete with the best teams in the state.

The stage is now set for an exciting championship showdown.
